We’ve been trying to see Sweet Land since it came out in November, but each time it has thwarted us.
The first time we tried to see it we were in Duluth. As we drove past the Duluth 10 movie theater, we noticed that there was absolutely no parking available and the line for tickets was out the door. We figured not everyone was waiting to see Sweet Land, but since we weren’t super early, we decided to pass on the movie rather than risk being late (and making us anxious).
The second time we tried to see the movie, we were at a theater in Apple Valley. The ticket line wasn’t out the door, but the lobby/ticket area was big enough that the two ticket lines were able to snake back and forth long enough that they might as well been out of the door. We actually stood in that line for 20 minutes, until the annoying teenagers with attitudes drove us away. I’ve since learned that that particular theater is one of the few in our area that accepts tickets from Fandango, and since I happen to have a gift certificate from Fandango next time we should be able to walk right in. Unfortunately, Sweet Land is no longer playing at that theater.
The third attempt occurred on Saturday night. We had planned to go out for dinner and a movie and I had noticed that the most elusive of movies was still showing at a theater in Edina. We ended up eating at a a nice family restaurant that neither of us previously been to. After dinner, we walked over to the movie theater and notice that the line for tickets was out the door and a block long. We guessed that there was some other movie opening and that not everyone was waiting to see Sweet Land, but it was obvious that we weren’t going to get tickets in time for the movie to start.
As we were walking back to the car to head home, Emily said, “I don’t even want to see the movie when it comes out on DVD.” That’s how badly Sweet Land has rejected us.
Screw you, Sweet Land.
